A Glimpse of McCain

Keeping up with the Presidential Campaign can be a full-time job, but I try to stay up to date on the issues. I recently read this article on McCain and was saddened by his stance on helping the working lower and middle classes. Granted I am an Obama supporter so my opinion is obviously biased, but I do try to remain open minded. This article is worth a look for anyone who is supporting McCain.

I had a hard time with some of these articles. If pay discrimination due to gender were truly the only issue in this case, there are laws in place already to give her the right to sue and win. We never know all the details to know what was really going on. A story can be make to slant just about any way writers want it to.

I like something about Obama...his charisma, and I prefer his overall personality to Hillary's, but he has the most liberal voting record of just about anyone I know. Liberal is not always bad, but if we are going to care for the ones with no one to defend them, we cannot forget the unborn...and he seems to do so. I realize the arguments for abortion based on true need, but those are less than 2% of current abortions by current pro-choice numbers. 2 percent! Very vocal and influencial people have build an argument for the rights of 2 percent due to genetic problem or rape induced pregnancies. Those people do not have problems getting the help they need making decisions good for health.

It's hard for me to believe how easily the opinions of the public can be swayed by savvy press.

I certainly hope we help the poor, however, for those of us who give...it is very difficult to work very hard and have the government, who are poor financial managers in enormous amounts of debt, making those financial decisions for us as if they know better.

The liberal agenda is becoming very socialistic. We need to be raising financially free people who are free to give and meet needs cheerfully and from the heart. We literally feel sick for days at the percentage we are paying in taxes. They squander our retirement and Social Security and then act like they have the answer by taking more? I have a hard time with that, too.

Render to Ceasar what is Ceasars for basic operational needs, but the inordinate amount of waste makes it difficult to swallow some of these arguments.

You could probably run a campaign free for our generation using the internet...yet millions, perhaps billions that could feed the poor are spent on propaganda, more or less, because we are so many of us are inclined to be uninformed. The net is being used some...they have to do what they have to do. It's just staggering.

Good thoughts. I need to be more politically aware.

Amanda, I read the article from the New York Times and all I saw was a blabbering feminist with her own political agenda. It sucks what happened to Ledbetter (I think that was her name) - but $3,700 a month ain't that bad (I wish I made that much) - people always want more, more, more...and this Ledbetter lady, along with a lot of the other single mothers that the writer talked about, just want a hand-out. That's what all this comes down to, when really, we should be asking: "How did such people come to be in their situation?" Single mothers don't set out to be single mothers, just like people don't set out to get addicted to drugs, spend their life savings supporting the addiction, lose everything, and live on the side of the street waiting for Barak Freakin' Obama to come along and essentially put money in their hand.
McCain is right to say that he's against lawsuits, because, when it comes down to it, people nowadays will do just about anything to get money they think they're "entitled" to. All that would happen would be a degeneration of lawsuit after lawsuit addressing nothing but personal selfishness.
And, by the way, single mothers don't need any more money. Believe me, I work with a lot of guys who work their keysters off - they work overtime every week, six days a week in a damn warehouse just to give up half that paycheck to the mother of their child. Child support is a bitch, but these guys are owning up, taking responsibility, paying these mothers more money than they are entitled to, in my opinion, and yet it is probably these same single mothers, the ones living off the sweat of the estranged fathers of their children, who want more. And they'll always want more. It's all about free-hand-outs - "what more can the government give Me!" And the demoncrats want to oblige them - give them more and more, practically encouraging them to go out and get pregnant again. "Don't worry - we'll take care of it" - that's what they're saying, essentially, and I'm tired of it.

Abortion. A very controversial issue. I personally do not support abortion due to my religious beliefs, but I also cannot ignore the practical issues concerning abortion. It has been said that it keeps crime rates down and overpopulation is a future concern. But to me life is precious and cannot have a price. I also understand some of the complexities of separation of church and state. Of course our moral and cultural ideals will be included in our government, but where do you draw the line. The abortion issue always seems to come into play with Christianity and politics, but honestly I do not see abortion becoming illegal anytime soon. So I think it is important to look at not just one issue but the whole gamut. There are other things that I also care passionately about....the environment, the poor, access to quality healthcare for all citizens, foreign relations are just a few. So I feel compelled to vote for the candidate based on a variety of issues. And character and integrity are very important. I fully believe that Obama is the most honorable presidential candidate we have had in many years. Which is why Justin and I have been volunteering and investing our time and energy in his campaign.
